Durham's winters are typically mild but chilly, with temperatures often below freezing and averaging around 4°C in January and February. Spring arrives slowly, warming up gradually from March onwards, when temperatures can reach as high as 28°C on warmer days. Summer months of June to August bring warm to hot conditions, with average highs around 24-25°C, although occasional heatwaves can push temperatures above 35°C. As autumn sets in, temperatures cool down again, returning to a more moderate range by October and November. Winters then return, with temperatures dipping back into the chilly range, but rarely below -7°C for long periods.
